Kathmandu: Both houses of the Federal Parliament—the House of Representatives and the National Assembly—are meeting today with key legislative agendas.
The House of Representatives meeting is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the multipurpose hall of the newly constructed Federal Parliament Building in Singha Durbar. The main agenda is to table a proposal to elect Dol Prasad Aryal, Deputy Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, as Speaker.
Aryal was already elected unopposed on Friday after filing his candidacy with Rabi Lamichhane as proposer, and Swarnim Wagle, Sobita Gautam, and Sunil Lamsal as seconders.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly meeting will take place at 12:15 PM at Singha Durbar. The agenda includes nomination and reshuffling of members in various thematic committees, as well as nominating members to chair meetings in the absence of the Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson.
According to Federal Parliament Secretariat General Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey, Prime Minister Balendra Shah is also scheduled to present the annual report of the National Women's Commission for the fiscal year 2081/82.
Today’s meeting, being held in the new parliament building, is regarded as significant in the country’s parliamentary practice.
